The Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) is a global nonprofit focused on inspiring individual action to improve the understanding, welfare and conservation of the environment, its wildlife and to safeguard the planet we all share. Our mission is based in Dr. Jane Goodall’s belief that the well-being of our world relies on people taking an active interest in all living things.
Our vision: People living in harmony with nature and animals
JGI Singapore (JGIS) was founded in 2007 to continue Dr. Jane’s work in Singapore. Since our inception, we have helped to educate and support Singaporeans and residents, particularly young people, in addressing local issues in three main areas which Dr. Jane consistently found are inextricably linked: human community, animal welfare and the natural environment.
Our mission: Inspire, educate, and activate individuals to make a better world for animals, people and the environment
Singapore is home to three non-human primates: the Sunda Slow Loris, the Long-tailed Macaque and the Raffles’ Banded Langur - with Raffles’ Banded Langur being unique to Singapore and the southern Peninsular Malaysia. Together with the other incredible biodiversity of Singapore, we work to strengthen the relationships between humans and wildlife in our City in a Garden.
We believe everyone can make a difference once they have the relevant knowledge and are inspired to take action. That’s why our goal is to nurture the next generation of 'Jane Goodalls’ by empowering and inspiring people to take action.
We do this by
1. Empowering young people to make positive change through our Roots & Shoots programme in schools in Singapore
2. Advocating for local primate species through education and conservation
3. Educating the public about animals and the environment so that we can live harmoniously with wildlife and nature
